Disclosure: I am a proud Salomon brand ambassador, but this review is based on my genuine experience and enthusiasm for the product!
The Salomon Aerotrek 28 is a fresh addition to Salomon’s pack range, and it's quickly become my go-to for hot summer day hikes in the Lake District. Purpose-built for comfort, ventilation, and practicality, this backpack is a fantastic choice for me and for anyone else who wants to stay cool, organised, and visible on the trail!
The stand-out feature of the Aerotrek 28 is right there in the name—airflow. The ventilated back panel uses a suspended mesh system that creates space between your back and the pack, allowing air to circulate freely. On warm, humid days in the Lakes, when even short climbs can leave you dripping, this airy design makes a real difference. It keeps your shirt drier, your back cooler, and your overall experience far more enjoyable!
The bright colourway isn’t just stylish, it’s also highly visible which is great for safety and adds a cheerful pop to my trail photos! … but hold on, it’s not all about looks!
This pack is incredibly functional; at 28 litres, it hits a sweet spot for day hikes. There's plenty of room for spare layers, a waterproof jacket, snacks, a hydration bladder, and even a small stove or camera if needed. The pocket layout is intuitive and well-executed and includes two large stretch side pockets for water bottles, a top lid pocket for easy-access items, and a front stash area perfect for stuffing in a damp jacket or quick-grab gear. The compression straps keep the load stable, and trekking pole attachments are secure and accessible.
I’ve had a fair few hikes out now with this backpack and I find it lightweight but supportive; the ergonomic shoulder straps and hip belt distribute weight well even when the pack is full.
The adjustable sternum strap adds to the stability without creating pressure and means that the pack stays secure on more technical or uneven ground.
